Prof. Vitalii Babak is a renowned Ukrainian scientist and academic leader whose distinguished career spans more than four decades in the fields of mathematical modeling, energy systems optimization, and measurement technologies. He graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in 1977 with a degree in Electrical Instrumentation and Computer Engineering, later earning the title of Doctor of Technical Sciences in 2005. Rising through the academic ranks, he began his professional journey at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, progressing from engineer to head of department (1977–1995), followed by serving as Deputy Minister of Education of Ukraine for Higher Education (1995–1998) and Rector of the National Aviation University (1998–2008). From 2008 to 2021, he worked at the Institute of Technical Thermophysics of the NAS of Ukraine as Chief Research Fellow and Deputy Director, and since 2022 he has been the Director of the General Energy Institute of the NAS of Ukraine. His primary research interests include the theory of measurements, information-measuring technologies, monitoring and optimization of thermophysical processes, and improving energy efficiency and environmental performance of energy systems. A skilled project manager and innovative problem solver, he has contributed significantly to international collaborations and has published extensively in IEEE and Scopus-indexed journals. According to Scopus, his scholarly impact includes 996 citations by 528 documents, 102 publications, and an h-index of 21, reflecting the wide recognition and influence of his research. His career is decorated with prestigious honors, including Academician of the NAS of Ukraine (2003), Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2001), Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (1997), and honorary doctorates from universities in the USA, Spain, Germany, Lithuania, South Korea, and Georgia. As an IEEE member and respected research leader, Prof. Babak’s contributions continue to shape the advancement of energy research and mathematical modeling, making him a highly deserving recipient of international recognition for scientific excellence.
