Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jan Iwaszkiewicz | Control of converters | Innovative Research Award
Professor | Gdynia Maritime University | Poland
Professor Jan Iwaszkiewicz is a distinguished scholar in power electronics and automation, currently serving as Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Department of Ship Automation, Gdynia Maritime University, Poland. He holds an M.Sc. in Electronics from the Technical University of Gdansk and both Ph.D. and Doctor of Science degrees in Power Electronics from the Electrotechnical Institute (IEL) in Warsaw. Throughout his prolific career, he has held key academic and leadership positions, including Assistant Master and later Director at the IEL Gdansk Branch, Senior Researcher, and Head of the Ship Automation Department at Gdynia Maritime University. His research expertise lies in power electronics, multilevel and voltage source inverters, converter modeling, and advanced control algorithms. Deeply interested in the mathematical foundations of converter theory, Professor Iwaszkiewicz has developed analytical and recursive models that bridge theoretical mathematics with practical engineering applications. He has made pioneering contributions to orthogonal vector theory in inverter control, recursive control using orthogonal vectors, and the application of Haar wavelets in cascade inverter control. His extensive body of work comprises more than 130 publications and five patents, with highly cited papers addressing multilevel inverter topology, predictive control algorithms, and harmonic distortion optimization. He has led numerous national and international research projects and has been instrumental in mentoring researchers in the field of mathematical modeling of power converters. Professor Iwaszkiewicz is a member of the Polish Electricians Association (SEP) and the Power Electronics Committee of the Polish Committee of Standardization (PKN), and a former member of the IEEE. His scholarly contributions reflect a lifelong pursuit of integrating rigorous mathematical analysis with cutting-edge engineering practice, establishing him as a leading figure in the field of power electronics. 125 Citations, 42 Documents, 6 h-index.
